 Two main thoughts nourished Fr. Berthier’s mind and action constantly. He wanted to promulgate the La Salette message to men to lead them to God. At the same time, he was worried about the lack of missionaries for the missions. The words of the Gospel: «The harvest is abundant but the labourers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out labourers for his harvest.» (Mt 9:37-38) had been impressed in his thoughts indelibly and dominated his life.
He yearned for the increase of the number of priests for the missions. During the period he worked at the Shrine and conducted spiritual exercises and popular missions he had many times met young men who wanted to become priests, but according to the general opinion at the time they were too old to study. For this reason he wanted to open a seminary for late vocations. This project, however, was disallowed by the superiors of his Congregation. |

An impulse for the Congregational Council August 24-29, 2009 in La Salette – by Fr. Isidro Perin M.S. 1)- BEAUTY, GOODNESS AND TRUTH: What do we intend by those terms?  The pilgrims who visit the shrine and the readers of the literature of La Salette are surprised by the often-repeated phrases: "the Beautiful Lady", the beauty of the place, the freshness and heaviness of the message, the brightness of the crucifix, the wonder of Maximin and Mélanie confronted with the experience they lived on September 19, 1846... We realize that modern man is hungry for actions of light in his search for truth about his life, his relationship to the world, to others and to God. It is time to express the Divine that is in us by the expression and pursuit of Beauty, Goodness and Truth. Beautiful is all that contributes to the reasonable development of mankind; Good is he who is fighting with all his heart to respect the dynamics of creation, for peace in the world, for ecumenism, for inter cultural and inter-religious dialogue ... Truthful is he who identifies the signs of the multifaceted divine action in all creation and opens a window on the definitive future of humanity.

1.- El Consejo de la Congregación 2009: centenario de la Pascua de Berthier  Habiendo celebrado el Capítulo General en 2007, correspondía por tanto celebrar Consejo de la Congregación este año. Al coincidir este año 2009 con el Centenario de la pascua al Padre de nuestro Fundador, P. Jean Berthier, se decidió celebrar esta reunión en el Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Salette, tan caro a nuestro Fundador, que fue misionero de la Salette y así permaneció hasta su muerte. En la santa montaña desarrolló una importante labor con los peregrinos de su tiempo, y allí reposan desde 1995 sus restos, trasladados desde la Casa Madre de Grave (Holanda). Dada la excepcionalidad de la ocasión, se invitó a que cada Superior Provincial viniera acompañado de un Consejero.
